After three decades of rapid economic growth with unchecked environmental pollution, the Chinese government has recently started to promote “green economy" to achieve sustainable development. Dr. Xia's talk discussed the policy instruments and obstacles on developing a green economy. Co-sponsored by the 21st Century China Program and International Affairs Group.
Dr. Xia Guang is the director general and senior research fellow at the Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy, part of China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP). He is a member of the Science and Technology Committee of MEP and a member of the High Level Intergovernmental Advisory Panel for the Global Environmental Outlook of the United Nations Environment Programme.
He is also engaged as a governmental member of the China Public Diplomacy Association, a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences, and professor at Renmin University of China and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. He has published seven books, more than 200 journal articles and led more than 60 research projects, and was awarded the Scientific and Technological Award from MEP and the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation award at Renmin University.
