Philip Duffy

Biography

Philip Duffy currently serves as a climate science adviser in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where he is involved in implementation of the Biden Administration’s ambitious climate policies. Prior to rejoining government, Duffy was president and executive director of the Woodwell Climate Research Center, where he formed partnerships with corporations, municipalities and other groups that used Woodwell’s science in their daily work. In the Obama Administration, Duffy served as a senior policy analyst in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and as a senior adviser in the U.S. Global Change Research Program.

Before joining the White House, Duffy was the chief scientist at Climate Central, a climate change communications organization. Duffy also served as a senior scientist and deputy division leader in the Atmospheric Science Division at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and has held visiting positions at the Carnegie Institution for Science, the Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University, and the University of California, Merced. He holds a bachelor’s degree in astrophysics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in applied physics from Stanford University.
